One of the first things we ask people who are interested in self storage is what size unit they think they may need, and we often get mixed reactions. Those that have used selfstorage before tend to know what they want, but more often than not we get a confused look and a ‘I’m not too sure’. Picking the right size unit helps save money and be as efficient as possible. So here are some things to consider in order to pick the right sized storage unit:

What are you storing?
A 3-bedroom house worth of things, or just a few bits and bobs? The amount you wish to store, has a direct impact on the unit size you wish to take. If you’re storing things like sofas and awkwardly shaped furniture, think about if you can store them vertically so as to save floor space. Measure dimensions of boxes and lose items to approximate how much space they’ll actually take up.

Employees at storage facilities will most likely be happy to show you various sized units to fit your needs. Remember to take into account the height of the unit, as you’ll be able to stack things and save space. It’ll also help you to visualise where certain things can go.
How often will you access your unit?
If you’re planning on accessing your unit often, you’ll want to leave walking space and smaller stacks. On the other hand, seldom used units can be more tightly packed meaning you can probably opt for a smaller sized unit.
